February 6 thru February 8
We went to Jacksboro State Park in Jacksboro, Texas. This was a trip where it seemed like everything went wrong that could go wrong. We left on our trip Feb. 6. It was very, very windy which should have alerted us to problems ahead. About 20-25 miles from the house we heard a noise on the drivers side of our motorhome. I looked in the mirror and saw nothing unusual. A few minutes later we heard the same noise. This time I hunkered down in my seat to see if I could see if anything was wrong with the awning. Sure enough, the awning was unrolling a little bit then rolling back in. We found the nearest place we could pull over and I got out and tied the awning down so that we could finish our trip.
We arrived at the park and signed in, got our site number and went to set up. We plugged in the electricity and all was OK. Next we plugged in the water and that is when things began to go wrong. Water began to pour out of the motorhome. We turned off the water and I went inside to see if I could find the leak. Beth turned on the water and again water started to run all over the place. I yelled at Beth to turn off the water. The leak was in the kitchen area behind some drawers that I couldn't open because the slideout had not been put out. Well as luck would have it this is the same slide that I had to tie the awning up so it would not billlow out. I went to get my ladder so I could untie the awning. Once the awning was free I went inside and put the slide out. Then I took the drawers out and told Beth to turn the water on. Finally I could see the problem. We have a drinking faucet in our RV and the plastic part underneath the sink was linking. Luckily I have a cutoff valve that I could turn off and the problem was fixed untill I could get home and get a replacement part and repair it.
Next when we tried to put out the bedroom slide it would not go out all of the way. After the third try it finally went out all of the way. After we finished setting up I crawled underneath the motorhome to check the hydraulic fluid. I found a hydraulic hose that was leaking. I tried to tighten the fittings but it kept on leaking. I started to loosen the fittings and the leak stopped. Next I checked the hydraulic fluid and found that it was low. I filled the system with fluid and everything worked normal after that.
Next i went outside to set up the portable satellite dish. I have Dish network so I have to sight in two satellites. I worked and worked but I could only get one satellite. I went inside and called Help at Dish Network. The lady I talked with could not help me so we decided we could live with one satellite.
That night when we were getting ready for bed we discovered that we did not have any hot water. We had the hot water heater on electric so I turned the switch so that it would heat up with propane. This kept our water hot for the rest of the week-end.
We spent Saturday visiting Beth's family in Graham, Texas. When we got back I noticed that the awning was billowing out again. So I got out the ladder and tied the awning down so that it would not billow up again.
Sunday morning we decided we were going home. Enough is enough or so we thought. As we were getting ready to leave Beth was going to go outside and the steps did not come out. We have electric steps that automatically come out and retract when the door is opened and closed. I climbed out and lubed all of the moving parts that I could see. As a result the steps came out but would not go all of the way in without a little help.
Once home we took the motorhome in to be repaired. Glad to say that all parts are now working and wanting to go.
Oh, did I say that this was our 40th anniversary? Despite all of the problems we still had fun and had a most unusual anniversary.
