Last Camping Trip :

June 12 - 14

We returned to Mineral Wells State Park for this weekend trip.  There were no major problems with this trip except for losing the sway-bar.  I forgot to attach the sway-bar when we were leaving Carrollton, but we found it in the street median on Sunday when we returned.   It was heavily damaged and had to be replaced.

On Saturday Beth, Christi, Gail (Beth's sister) , and I rode our bicycles on  the Mineral Wells Rail-to-Trails beginning downtown and out to the crossing at Hwy.180 and back..  If you are not familiar with the Rails-to-Trails movement,  you may wish to research this further and get involved.   It is a private effort to change abandoned railways to recreational use by cyclist, hikers, joggers,  and equestrians.

    The LaTurner Family :

My name is Allen LaTurner. I have been married to my wonderful wife Beth for 29 years. We have a daughter Christi who is in the 10th grade at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas.

I work for Carter & Burgess, Inc. I am a Civil Design Technician in the transportation department. I am assigned to the Rail Road division. We do mostly Auto Unloading Facilities. This is where cars built in Detroit are shipped in by train and are then unloaded at these facilities. I have been working for Carter & Burgess, Inc. since April 1997. Before that I worked at Bridgefarmer & Associates, Inc. as a Design Technician working on Highways, Streets and Drainage.   I joined the Band Boosters at Newman Smith High School and was recruited to pull the band trailer to all the games and marching contests.

Beth graduated from North Texas State University with a bachelor's degree in 1969. Since then she has received her Master's degree. She is a Math teacher at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton. She has been teaching for 28 years (24 years in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, 3 years in Denison, Texas, and 1 year in Wilmington, N.C.). She is kept busy taking Christi to and from various activities.

Christi is now a sophomore (no longer a "Fish") at Newman Smith High School.  She enjoys playing the clarinet in the marching band for Newman Smith High School. She has been playing the clarinet for four years now. Christi has also been taking piano lessons for eight years now but her favorite activity is dancing. She took ballet for 10 years but had to quit because there is just not enough time.  She really does miss it.  Christi keeps reminding us everyday that she will be16 in September.  She is currently enrolled in driver's ed.

We love to go camping in our RV. We have a 1994 26' Terry trailer. We have had the trailer for 4 years now and really enjoy getting away from the noise and stress of the city. Beth and I plan on being fulltimers when we retire. We have been reading about it and it sounds wonderful.
